EWP FISH MOUTH WAREPAD IS BETTER THAN STEEL ON STEEL...In the past, there hasn’t been many options to protect the Fish Head.  All we ever did was weld in steel.  But, as you well know, “Steel on Steel” still causes wear and has no cushion properties.

The EWP Poly Wearpad protects the inside wall of the Fish Mouth clevis head and cushions the drawbar eye as the trailer moves.  Therefore protecting the Fish Mouth clevis head and minimizing wear to the drawbar eye.

The EWP Poly Wearpad also stops the slamming and banging that you get with the drawbar and pin action moving back and forth.  This cushion helps provide a better ride for the driver.

Fruehauf dump trailer cross members protected by EWP Poly Pads no weld

The EWP Poly Pads protect cross members of dump boxes.  That would include that long ago dinosaur “Fruehauf Dump Trailer” that is still on the road today along with the East Dump Trailers, Mac Dump Trailers as well as Dump Trucks, and miscellaneous Dump Trailers that have Dump Boxes with ribs or cross members.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DUMP BOX CROSS MEMBER WEARS OUT WHERE IT SITS ON THE FRAME OF THE TRAILER?

YOU HAVE TO WELD IN SOME TYPE OF PLATE.

Done that and it is a PAIN!   If you have had that happen, you know what I mean.  To be able to weld on aluminum you have to get the area very clean.   You have to get the area that is old, used and cracked free from debris.  That is not an easy task!  As you are welding the heat of the welder creates the area of where you are to weld unsuitable.   The aluminum gets cracked and worn causing dirt and foreign matter to get impregnated in the aluminum making it difficult to weld..

Do you remember the Fruehauf Dump Trailer?  What a great trailer!  Invented by August Fruehauf.  He called them the semi trailer.  The Fruehauf Trailer company had over 1,000 patents.  They revolutionized the trucking industry.  Unfortunately, their story ended in  tragedy.  Bankruptcy, corruption and family greed played a roll in their demise.  Eventually, Wabash National bought them out in 1997.

If you haven’t read the history of the FRUEHAUF TRAILER, you should.  It was an amazing company and helped make trailers what they are today.  Over a thousand patents in multiple industries.  The Fruehauf trailer company introduced revolutionary inventions to the trucking and transportation industry.

Spring Suspension advocate Schneider thinks air-ride suspensions are over-rated…Find out why…

Schneider argues that spring suspension on trailers are every bit as good at protecting freight as air-ride suspensions. The paper, titled Spring Ride vs Air Ride: Ignore the Inflated Myth of Air-Ride Suspensions, highlighted test results that showed under most circumstances, spring-ride suspensions provided a better ride quality than air-ride.

Per the article loads of 10,000, 30,000 and 40,000 lbs. the perceived benefits of air-ride are minimal at best.

Air ride vs Spring ride…Maybe not as popular as Coke vs Pepsi, but, definitely in the world of trucking a popular debate.

Schneider backs up their theory with results that they found from a comprehensive testing that their company had done.  Of course, not every fleet can spend the time and money to have their own independent studies, such as Schneider did, but, isn’t that how you find out the facts?

Those two words “Air Ride” have you imagining that the load is floating on a cloud.  But, is it really?  And…does it make sense to ad unnecessary costs when you don’t need to?  What’s the objective here?

I like the fact that Schneider hired an independent company to check out the facts.  They definitely put their money where their mouth is.

As a form fleet owner, it was always to keep an open mind.  Trends come and go…and cycle back in some instances.  Recently, I heard that fleets are taking a closer look back at that old work horse…the spring suspension.

The Hutch Suspension is simple compared to the Air Ride Suspension.  I am sure you would agree that the Hutch Suspension being one of the most popular fits into that category.

But the Spring Suspension is not without its problems.  I am sure your drivers feel and hear that constant banging of the spring suspension.  Especially, when empty.  That’s the metal on metal between the hanger, equalizer and spring.  You can hear the suspension wearing.

Reyco Suspension, Hanger Side Wear can be a problem for many fleets. There hasn’t been many options to protect the hanger for a Spring Suspension.

OEM Protective coatings try to help, but, when that spring is constantly scraping and pushing into the side of the spring hanger it gets worn and chipped. Once small blemishes start…they have a way of spreading and causing spring hanger corrosion.

And…before you know it, the side wall is rusted and busted out.  Sound at all familiar?

Or, maybe you have noticed how the leaf spring over time forms a rut or groove in the Reyco Suspension, Spring Hanger.  As the suspension twists and turns, the spring sticks in that rut or groove causing increased wear to the interior side wall of the hanger.

We have heard it over and over, “Can’t you do anything about hanger side wear?”

How is EWP and Dr. Sholl’s the same…and why should I care?

You know…when you think about it…Martin from Bulk Transportation is right! Both products “ABSORB SHOCK” and “VIBRATION”.

As you know, the suspension is constantly moving up and down…up and down…Without EWP you have “Metal on Metal”.

Cracks, potholes and other imperfections in the roadways put a lot of pressure upon the suspension, trailer frame and contents. If you live in Michigan, like we do, whole cars are swallowed by potholes!

EWP separates that “Metal on Metal Wear” by adding 8 additional contact points (tandem) that help absorb vibration. These points help reduce stress on the trailer’s components such as lights, springs, frame structure, doors, rivets, etc.  EWP helps protect the integrity of the entire trailer.
